FOREST FIRES DETECTED BY CAMERA

FOREST FIRE DETECTION BY CAMERA, EARLY DETECTION OF FIRE WITH IQ FIREWATCH

Protecting people, nature, and assets

  • Terrestrial system for forest fire detection by camera, early detection of fires and hot spots.
  • More 20 years of development and optimization continuously adjusted to meet the needs of customers.
  • The technology of base of the German Aerospace Center for the Rosetta mission in the 1990s (for day and color WUXGA / for night Full-HD)

Multi-spectral sensor system

  • Optical detection of smoke Used for many years.
  • Unique combination with thermal detection.
  • Data processing using a reliable combination algorithms based on characteristics and artificial intelligence (AI).

Components and workflow

• Multi-spectral detection unit

Thermal infrared sensor for detecting hot spots (optional).

Monochrome sensor for day-time surveillance

Near infrared sensor for night detection.

RGB sensor for additional spectral information.

State-of-the-art system

- 360° revolution

  • Day: 4-6 minutes
  • Night: 9-12 minutes

- Capture images at predefined positions

Capture of images

• Higher detection range

- Detection range up to 20 km in all weather conditions, 40 km and more in optimal conditions.
- Surveillance zones up to 125,000 ha (1,250 km2) and more by sensor

Processing data with AI

  • Real-time processing of raw optical data using various algorithms developed by the company.
    > Optimal performance without information loss
  • Combination, under patent application, classical algorithms based on characteristics and algorithms based on artificial intelligence.
    > Reduction of false positive alarms and increase in the detection rate.

Evaluation of messages

• IQ FireWatch office

- Main operating software for checking alarms, for example, the transverse bearing
- Possible interfaces for the transfer of data to third-party systems.
- A single sensor can accurately locate a plume of smoke.
- Through transverse bearing, one can obtain a localization with a precision of only a few meters, but also a deviation over large distances.

MONOCHROMATIC

for day-time surveillance

Monochrome sensors are more likely to «see» the smoke

  • Higher resolution than that of the RGB sensor thanks to the direct use of the light information.
  • Monochrome sensors capture all the incoming light (each pixel receives up to 3 times more light) compared to RGB sensors.
  • IQ FireWatch uses a monochrome HQ sensor for better contrast and visibility in fog and mist.

Additional spectral features

The RGB (color) sensor images offer additional and different characteristics

  • Pixels can be differentiated by different color values (RGB).
  • The information is added by different channels of color.
  • The different types of smoke are visible in different color channels.

DIFFERENCES IN PERFORMANCE BETWEEN A CCTV CAMERA AND AN IQ FIREWATCH CAMERA

IQ FireWatch Fire Detection in the World

There are 400 IQ FireWatch camera installations worldwide for camera-based forest fire detection, in forests located at different latitudes. More than a hundred cameras are installed in the Brandenburg Forest for the detection of forest fires.

IQ FireWatch protects the Pena National Palace in Portugal, a World Heritage Site.
Systems are also installed in the world-renowned wine region of the Napa Valley in California.
